Co-tenancy

Co-tenancy is a formula frequently chosen by students. In big cities such as Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Marseille, and Montpellier where housing costs are especially high, it means reducing the rent you pay by half or even more depending on the number of roommates. According to a study conducted by the polling institute Ipsos, 20% of 15 to 24 year olds have already tried co-tenancy and 59% are tempted to try it.

This lifestyle is also attracting retirees. As an alternative to the retirement home, co-tenancy means seniors who are still quite alert can not only reduce the cost of rent but also break their solitude. Because even beyond reducing your rent, co-tenancy is a fun way to share an apartment or house and create strong ties. Fairly rare in France, seniors’ co-tenancy is quite popular in Belgium and other European countries.
