Installing a garden shed

A place to put away your gardening or work tools, the garden shed is a very practical way of making room

Do you need a building permit to install a garden shed?

No authorisation from the urban planning department is required for light constructions the ground area of which is less than 2 m2 and the height of which does not exceed 1.50m.
If however the surface area of your shed exceeds 20 m2, you must apply to the Town Council for a building permit.

Choice of materials

You will find different models on the market.
Wood, warm and sturdy, will be a lovely contrast in your garden. It does however call for regular maintenance.

Metal, PVC, and resin models are economical and require no specific maintenance. Unlike wood, these materials offer no thermal protection.

Avoid installing your shed where it will be exposed to the wind or under trees (risk of obstructing water evacuation channels via leaves).

If your shed is significant in size, provide for a concrete floor slab. It will serve as the foundation and also prevent humidity from seeping up through the soil.
