Solar heating

Solar energy is free, renewable, and non-polluting. So why not use it to cover a portion of your home’s heating needs?

Lower your heating bill while protecting the environment

A solar boiler can cover 20 to 50% of your home’s heating needs. Not only that but use of solar energy is part of an ecological approach to environmental protection, reducing CO2 emissions, using renewable energy sources, sustainable development.

How does solar heating work?

The energy from solar radiation, direct and diffuse, is stored in a solar heat collector. This collector, generally placed on the roof, is a coil through which water circulates. It is covered with a pane of glass and works like a greenhouse. The water inside the collector can reach 80°C. It is transferred throughout the house and either:

  • heats a hot water tank before running through the radiator system
  • or runs through a floor that circulates heat throughout the house (this solution is reserved for new buildings or major renovations)

Because the this is a closed circuit system, the water eventually returns to reheat in the collector.
Good to know: solar heating is also used to produce domestic hot water.

Install solar heating and take advantage of tax incentives

Installing solar heating is expensive, € 10 000 to € 25 000 on average. Tax incentives in favour of sustainable development make it more affordable.

  • a tax credit (50% of the cost of materials)
  • a VAT rate at 5.5% (for a house over 2 years old and professional installation)

Also good to know: under certain conditions, the French ANAH) (HIA or Home Improvement Agency) and local governments grant subsidies. Information: www.anah.fr and www.enerplan.asso.fr
